CONTRACTS have been awarded to three Gippsland companies to repair seven landslips across South Gippsland Shire Council.

The long-awaited works worth almost $2.5 million means affected residents can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel, more than 13 months after the widespread damage.

BJ’s Earthmoving of Leongatha was awarded the $576,635 contracts for the works on Griggs Road and Clarkes Road, expected to take 14 weeks.

A second Leongatha company, South Gippsland Quarries, won three contracts valued at $591,141 to repair the Kardella Road slip and Grand Ridge Road Slips 1 and 2. The work period is 10 weeks.

The third, and largest contract was awarded to MACA Infrastructure of Yarragon to repair slips on Mt Eccles Road and Wild Dog Valley Road at a cost of almost $1.3 million, over 10 weeks.

A council spokesperson said the awarding of tenders was delayed until Victorian government funding for the works was approved.
