THE Meeniyan CWA is aiming to bake at least 500 scones over one weekend as part of a state-wide record attempt.
With the cancellation of the Royal Melbourne Show, the CWA couldn’t hold its annual scone sale fundraiser, so local branches are taking on the challenge.
Last year, the CWA sold 15,565 scones during the show. This year, branches across the state will try and beat that record on October 17.
The Meeniyan branch will be baking out of the Meeniyan Dumbalk United Football Club rooms and orders will be available for pick up on the day between 10am and 12pm.
The Meeniyan CWA held a similar bake day in July and had a great response from the community.
“We were very happy with the feedback,” Meeniyan CWA president Marilyn Mackie said.
The ladies will be making three different types of scones for $1.50 each – plain, savoury and fruit.
Unfilled sponges will also be sold for $5.
Orders will close on October 16 and will be cash only.
For Meeniyan orders, phone either Faye Bland on 0427 644 273 or Marilyn Mackie on 5664 7372.
Leongatha Twilight CWA and Poowong CWA will also be participating in the challenge.
For Leongatha orders, phone Niki Curtis on 0427 644 273.
For Poowong orders, go to cognitoforms.com/PoowongCWA/PoowongCWASconeDrive by October 14.
Poowong will also be selling lamingtons and slices.
