AN EXPERIENCED paraglider was airlifted to The Alfred Hospital in a serious condition with upper body injuries after he crashed on the beach in San Remo on Saturday.

The 31-year-old man from Sale, who is a paragliding instructor, launched from the cliffs at the end of Potters Hill Road around 5.30pm on November 7.

After gliding for a while, the man hit ‘dead air’ where he lost all lift and crashed four to five metres to the beach below.

Wonthaggi Police, San Remo SES and Ambulance Victoria attended the scene.

Worried about possible spinal injuries, Ambulance Victoria attended to the man on the beach before SES carried him back to the car park where the helicopter met them.
