FORMER railway stations at Korumburra and Nyora will be renovated for community use under funding provided in last week’s state budget.
Member for Gippsland South Danny O’Brien said the funding win was a credit to the great work of the Station@Korumburra Working Group which had been fighting for funding through VicTrack for a number of years.
“The Korumburra station is a beautiful old building but it is slowly deteriorating and needs urgent work or will become an eyesore,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The Station@Korumburra working group, led by Jenni Keerie, has been passionately working for a number of years to secure funding to renovate the station and enable its use for the wider community.”
Mr O’Brien said the Nyora station was used by the local op shop where a dedicated band of volunteers raised money for the community.
“This station is also in need of a spruce up and the budget money will significantly improve this station as it becomes a key part of the extended Great Southern Rail Trail.”
Mr O’Brien said the actual amount of money had not yet been confirmed.
