Our History… it is with regret I inform Sentinel Times readers that I will not be supplying you with Our History stories …. I have been doing these articles relating to history of our area for seven years and have enjoyed all aspects of finding this great information and completing a story and helping families find their burials and various history information on the coal miners and their families in the area.
Lately most of my historical stories are about the Wonthaggi Cemetery. I have lost enthusiasm.
In 2015 I was approached several times by Bass Coast Council cemetery governance officers to help them sort out the burials in the cemetery against the burial register. So, in 2016 I started completing this large project. From 2016 – 2018 I received so much help from council – it was great.
Then in 2019 things changed and cemetery CEO and staff also changed. Councillors seemed to have an attitude ……and it just did not get any better. It has got to the stage that if I email or ring the cemetery governance office they are too busy to reply to my email, or not available to take my call. This has been the situation for a long time now and as a volunteer I will finish my agreement of 2016 and complete the burials with the burial register. I am now working on the lawn sections.
I thank all readers for their input of historical information. I am sorry it has had to come to this.
As a volunteer, I don’t feel that I need to endure the rudeness shown to me by the Bass Coast cemetery governance officers or councillors.
