POLICE are putting in a last-ditch effort today to locate the missing Inverloch woman, Trish Backhurst, 81, before scaling back their search next week.

Strong numbers of police have been around the town door-knocking in the past week, continuing that work over the weekend in an effort to talk to visitors on Saturday and Sunday, but so far to no avail.

“There wouldn’t be a house in Inverloch we haven’t visited now,” said a spokesperson for the Inverloch Police today, Sunday, March 28.

“It’s interesting to note now that a lot of the people we spoke to didn’t know that Ms Backhurst was missing and there was a big search going on,” he said.

Police also widened their search in the past few days to include farming properties and roadsides on the outskirts of Inverloch, but again without success.

It seems likely now that police will announce plans to scale-back the search on Monday after committing significant resources to it in the past few weeks.

Police still want to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage in Inverloch from Wednesday and Thursday, March 17 and 18.

Anyone with dashcam footage or information that might assist police should call Inverloch Police on (03) 5674 1202 or Wonthaggi Police (03) 5671 4100.
