I read with interest several articles to the editor in several local newspapers in reference to the South Gippsland Shire Council whilst under administration.

I think some people have forgotten the reason for the appointment of administrators after the state government voted through both houses of Parliament to sack the incumbent council, it was because the Minister for Local Government deemed that the operations of the council was not in the best interests of the South Gippsland community which was absolutely a correct decision.

Let’s consider what the administrators’ job was, it was not to get heavily involved in looking at every facet of the workings of the council, although they were there to see that the council functioned to continue services to the ratepayers, it was to steady the ship to a point where fresh elections of councillors could be held in October 2021 and that is what they have done.

The bleating self-interested people only complain because it does not suit what is their agenda. I am surprised at the comments in reference to what has happened in the past just keep on coming on; when you keep looking behind you, you cannot see forward. My observance is that the administrators have done what their job was they were appointed to do, we now need those who can look forward in their thinking, and build on the foundations, put in place.

Mahatma Gandhi once said: “The future depends on what we do in the present”.

How true this is.
