THE Wonthaggi Motocross Track hosted round one of the 2021 Australian ProMX series on Sunday, April 11, on a well-prepared surface which nonetheless suffered from heavy overnight rain and a downpour during qualifying.
It made it tough for riders, but the thrills and spills had the crowd enthralled.
According to a report by Trevor Hedge, the spills started when the gates dropped for the opening moto at 11.35am and a quartet of riders went down together before the end of lap one.
There were no problems for Luke Clout though as he was out front and had a clear track and vision while Brett Metcalfe, Todd Waters and Matt Moss gave chase.
Ultimately though it was Metcalfe who came through to win the first round ahead of a hard-charging Regan Duffy in third, regaining places after a mid-race fall.
Duffy went on to win race two and take the round.
