THE Meeniyan Art Gallery’s exhibitions continue to impress visitors, who are constantly amazed at the quality of the works and the presentation of the gallery spaces.
The April exhibition was another popular and successful one.
This month, the works of Lauren Charlton, Jane Suffield, Vanessa Wootton, Connie Wheeler and Jenine Bell are filling the gallery spaces.
The ‘Meet the artist’ event is on this Sunday, May 16. All are invited to come and meet and chat with the artists while watching them demonstrate their crafts. All of the artists will be present between 11am and 2pm.
Gallery 1 – Coming Home
Lauren Charlton grew up in Dumbalk and revisits familiar landscapes of her childhood in ‘Coming Home’.
With a vibrant palette and fluid style, Lauren draws the viewer through the landscape and examines the notion of travel, adventure, and then the return and connection to home and place.
Gallery 2 – Textile and Artistry, a tribute
Jane Suffield, Vanessa Wootton and Connie Wheeler have produced a beautiful array of items, using natural fibres and materials, inspired by the landscapes around them.
Jane showcases stitched shibori and indigo dyeing; Vanessa has created wool and silk eco-printed scarves and fabric, and Connie creates twine and weaves basketry, inspired by the best weavers of all – birds!
Gallery 3 – Free Spirits
Continuing the theme of celebrating the natural world, Jenine Bell showcases her love of Australian wildlife in this show. Using oils, she cleverly captures a menagerie of animals with softness, light and movement.
