MORE than 120 trucks were onsite at Wonthaggi Hospital to pour almost 800 cubic metres of concrete to lay the foundation on Monday last week.
The site was full of workers and trucks who started at 4am to begin the essential works.
According to Bass Coast Health, the new hospital is on track to open by August 2022.
The $115m project aims to deliver 18 additional emergency department treatment spaces, which will allow the hospital to treat an extra 26,000 emergency patients per year.
Construction of three new theatres and a procedure room is also set to double the hospital’s surgery capacity.
In addition, 32 inpatient beds and four short stay beds will be modernised.
