POOWONG will need to outperform Lang Lang in the closing stages of the Ellinbank and District Football League season if they are to make finals.
The Magpies and Tigers currently sit on six wins and four losses each, but Lang Lang have a massive lead on percentage.
Both sides have similar runs home, but Poowong will be hoping they can get one more win than their rivals to be in the top five.
At the top end of the table, Ellinbank have all but secured a minor premiership after 10 wins and zero losses.
Trafalgar are in second place on eight wins and Buln Buln are one win behind in third.
Longwarry would’ve been disappointed with their start to the year but they’re starting to hit their straps now and will be dangerous come finals time.
Neerim Neerim South are also a smokey to sneak into the top five but the Cats will have to pull off some big upsets if they’re to have a chance.
Nilma Darnum and Catani are no chance of making it and Nyora and Yarragon are in a battle to avoid the wooden spoon.
Ellinbank is also undefeated in the A Grade netball, all but guaranteeing they’ll be minor premiers on the footy field and the netball court.
Trafalgar is in second place, and behind them is Nilma Darnum and Catani.
Nyora currently sit in fifth and they’ll have to hold off a fast-finishing Buln Buln if they’re to retain their spot.
Poowong are no chance to make the finals and they’ll be doing their best to avoid the wooden spoon, with Yarragon the only team behind them.
