On June 27, I had My Big Lunch at the Inverloch Bowling Club.
This was my fourth attempt because COVID-19 rules stopped me having one earlier.
I invited 75 family and friends but on the day 25 attended.
I would like to thank the businesses of Inverloch, Wonthaggi and Korumburra for their generosity. I was given as much bread as I needed from Robyn at Paul the Pieman, 50 small dinner rolls from Lucy at The Paradise Bakery, cakes and slices from Nicole at The Bayside Lady, four scarves from Sharon at Bliss, coffee, tea, sugar and milk – value of $40 from Tracy at Foodworks, two vouchers from Bronwyn at Illuka Hairdressers, two bottles of wine from The Esplanade Hotel, a small hamper from Tommy at the Serious Surf Stuff, lollies from Janine at The Lolly Shop, two vouchers from Robyn at the Beach Box, $50 from Zoe at the Post Office, a hamper from Annie at the Westpac in Wonthaggi and two mugs from Parry’s in Korumburra.
My daughter-in-law, Candace, gave me a South East Melbourne Phoenix ticket for four for a game at the John Cain Arena in 2022.
My husband, John, made pumpkin and carrot soup; potato, leek and bacon soup and scotch broth.
I raised $2507 by having a silent auction, a ‘Guess which mug the tea is in’ with one of 20 at $5 a guess and a couple of other fun fundraisers.
I asked everyone to wear their footy colours and the best one received a prize.
One of my friends, Dianne, came and shared about her ongoing cancer journey and I shared about my brother-in-law, Jack, who had a brain tumour and died at the young age of 39.
Ron also stood up and shared about his ongoing journey with his cancer. Cathy and Yvonne helped in the kitchen serving the food and cuppas. It was a great day and very positive.
Elizabeth Duthie, Inverloch.
