ON Wednesday, the Leongatha and District Cricket Association released a statement, showing its support for Poowong Loch Cricket Club.
In the statement, the league extended invitations to anyone willing to be involved in the club as a player or committee member.
“The club is in desperate need of assistance and leadership in order to keep going for another season,” said the LDCA.
In the 2020/21 season, Poowong Loch only fielded a B2 side, not an A or C Grade side.
They have already lost players looking to play A Grade to other clubs, but the league has again given them permission to compete as a one team club in B2.
Koonwarra L/RSL president John Manicaro said the inclusion of Nyora may make it easier for Poowong Loch to attract new players, as they now have an opponent nearby.
“Hopefully Nyora coming in will help Poowong Loch out, it may be able to get them up and running a little bit stronger,” he said.
On Friday, Poowong Loch released a statement on its Facebook page, outlining their steps towards the forthcoming season.
Alex Dixon will take on the presidency role, Garry Knox will continue his long involvement with the club as manager and Ralph Hendrich will be treasurer.
“The club’s finances are very healthy. The policy of no paid players will continue.”
The club also asked new and existing players and supporters to follow the club’s pre-season progress on Loch and Poowong Community Facebook groups:
“Support and encouragement in all shapes and sizes would be greatly appreciated.”
They also voiced their delight with the inclusion of Nyora, warmly welcoming their near neighbours to the LDCA: “We look forward to some epic battles.”
