THE Gippsland League has taken a leaf out of the AFL’s book and decided to name the best 22 players under 22 in the 2021 season.

They have not finalised the team of 22 yet, but they have named a squad of 50 players.

Players born in 1999 and above are eligible, and they must have played four senior games in the Gippsland League in 2021.

The league said they would select the side based on their performance in senior Gippsland League football in 2021, not Gippsland Power or under 18s performances.

They will also look at a fan vote of the best 22, which can be found on the Gippsland League website.

Wonthaggi has six players named in the squad: Flynn Anderson, Tom Murray, Darcy Brosnan, Josh Schulz, Harry Dawson and Josh Bates.

Leongatha has five: Jake van der Pligt, Jack Hume, Kim Drew, Cam Olden and Jacob Lamers.

The league will announce the final team in coming weeks.
