A planning application to develop six ‘glamping’ tents at 140 Punch Bowl Road, San Remo, has been lodged before Bass Coast Shire Council.
The $400,000 proposal was put forward by ‘THE BUBBLE’ Pty Ltd, and each of the glamping units will accommodate a maximum of two guests, with a total capacity of 12.
According to the proposal, it seeks to “attract people from around the world to enjoy the magnificent landscape of San Remo and promote San Remo and Phillip Island’s tourism”, and “for tourism purposes and farming purposes, create a luxury glamping experience compensating farming knowledge”.
The glamping units would consist of:
* Timber decking base.
* Prefabricated inflatable tents, or bubble tents with furniture, air-condition unit, shower and toilet facility.
* Outdoor furniture.
* Outdoor hot tub.
The site is currently being used as a farm with one dwelling located on the southeast corner.
The proposed glamping units will be cleaned and serviced by an external cleaning company, with general waste disposed of offsite as part of the service.
However, the proposal has received eight objections so far, with concerns including increased traffic, dust, hygiene of the units and exposure to elements.
