The Strzelecki Ward has a large swathe of candidates to choose from in the upcoming election.
I am standing to get good governance back into the council chamber and to see projects started, and those already commenced, kept on track.
Nyora, the boom area of the shire, is desperate for major drainage infrastructure works to be done, footpaths installed and encouragement of commercial business development.
The Loch Bowling Club seeks a synthetic green – a project on the books for too long needing funding support.
Then, to keep the wonderful new Korumburra Hub and Streetscape project on track, Meeniyan with the Hub and works that have started but importantly seeing projects get completed, to name a few.
I ask voters to carefully study the attributes but more importantly the track record of all candidates – some are doers in working for their community in real ways, some have yet to show any significant voluntary contribution, some list “lobby” groups as service to the community.
Volunteers need to be recognised as they build our communities.
As to who gets on council, that is in your hands – the last crop of councillors in office were sacked by both Houses of State Parliament – let us not have a rerun of the past.
Jim Forbes, candidate for the Strzelecki Ward, Poowong.
