FORMER local motocross sensation Jed Beaton has claimed a third-place finish at the Grand Prix of Turkey in MX2 of the FIM Motocross World Championship.
The Grand Prix of Turkey marked the start of the second half of the MX2 World Championship season and he would’ve been happy with the way he kicked off the event.
Beaton had a superb start to race one, edging into second place before he was overtaken by Italian Mattia Guadagnini.
He was locked in a tight battle with the Italian for most of the first race, but he could not find a way past him and finished in third place.
In race two, the 23-year-old started well, nearly taking the holeshot before slotting into second.
Beaton and his Husqvarna bike then lost a position to Frenchman Tom Vialle on lap five and engaged in another battle with Gaudagnini for the rest of the race.
He was able to hold off Guadagnini, finishing third once again, which was enough to get him third overall position, making it his second podium of the season.
Beaton was thrilled with the efforts of himself and the rest of his Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team after the race.
“It feels really good to be back on the podium,” Beaton said.
“It had been a bit of an up and down year heading into the break, so to get this podium and put together two strong races, it’s the perfect start to the second half of the season.
“I had to really dig deep in that second moto, withstanding pressure for pretty much the whole race, so that one felt really good.
“The team has been amazing as always and this result sets us up really well for Wednesday.
“My bike was awesome, my starts were perfect and now we can just focus on the motos in a few days’ time and get back up on the box again.”
Beaton has now moved into fourth place in the MX2 Motorcross World Championship standings.
