A NEW main vehicle access driveway and car park is under construction at Thompson Reserve in Inverloch.
The driveway will be from Cuttriss Street instead of Inverloch–Venus Bay Road, which will improve road safety and enable the delivery of a new cricket and multi-purpose training facility at the reserve in the future.
A new car park area will also be constructed, with better connections to existing infrastructure, including the BMX track.
However, when the project was presented for council adoption at its August meeting, councillors were divided on whether to proceed with works for the new driveway access.
An alternative motion was put forward to defer consideration to a future meeting, which was due to a councillor’s concern that aspects of traffic management needed to be clarified before works could go ahead. However, that motion failed and the project was given the green light.
The $120,000 project is expected to take up to four weeks to complete and was identified in the adopted Thompson Reserve Master Plan.
Throughout community engagement to develop the master plan, user groups supported the new entry/exit point to the reserve, council said.
