POOWONG Football Netball Club has announced Chris Doria will coach the senior football side from 2022.
After two seasons with the Dandenong Stingrays, and 92 VFL games with Frankston and Collingwood across five seasons, Doria joined Poowong in 2017 as an assistant coach.
After his three-year stint as assistant coach, the club announced Doria would be co-coaching the side with Mick Hawken in 2020.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 restrictions meant the 2020 season never got up and running but Doria maintained his position alongside Hawken in 2021.
The Magpies had a brilliant start in 2021, winning their first four games, but they could only manage two wins from their next four games to finish the season with a six and four record.
They looked set to miss out on the finals but with the re-implementation of COVID-19 restrictions, a finals series never got underway.
In a Facebook post the club said they were “super excited” to announce Doria as the coach.
“During his time with the club, Chris has been an integral part of the resurgence the club has hard across the board,” the club said.
“Having a long list of accolades during his playing career and playing close to 100 senior games of VFL, Chris has vast football knowledge and experience to draw on.
“Most importantly, Chris shows a great passion for coaching and tremendous ability to communicate with the playing group, which we see as a big asset to take us to the next level.”
