THE 2021 Bass Coast Board Riders (BCBR) Surfing Open event is set to take place at Kilcunda on the weekend of November 13-14.

BCBR secretary, Luke Wilkinson, is looking forward to the return of senior competition, and the crowning of the best men and women surfers in the Bass Coast region.

“We’ve had some great initiatives and success with our juniors in recent times, but with the pandemic and everything going on, it’s been a while since we’ve held an open competition,” Wilkinson said.

“We have enthusiastic surfers in our Bass Coast community, and we’re excited to provide this opportunity to showcase some of our local talent.

“It’s also an opportunity to come together, get in the water, watch some good surfing, and enjoy a barbeque, while supporting the club.”

The Bass Coast Open has five divisions: Open Men and Women; Over 40 Men and Women; Over 60 Men and Women; Open Kneeboards Men and

Women; Open Long Board Men (9ft-plus) and Women (8ft-plus).

Wilkinson is hoping to see past juniors, including former junior state champion Taj Sleeman, competing again.

“We’ve had a lot of talented juniors pass through the BCBR club, and we’re hoping to see them compete for bragging rights in the open sections.”

To enter, email basscoastboardriders@gmail.com with your name, phone number and division you wish to enter by Wednesday, November 10. Entry is $20. For competitor eligibility, visit BCBR socials, or the club portal at surfingaustralia.justgo.com

The event is proudly supported by Atoll Travel, Vortex Surf Skate Snow and Fleet Wines.

It will be followed by a family-friendly presentation night and the club’s annual general meeting.
