YOU know what they say, you can’t keep a good town down!

The small South Gippsland town of Mirboo North, population 2300, is emerging from the challenge of COVID restrictions with a new swimming pool, a reinvigorated main street and a new medical centre set to open in the next few weeks.

This coming weekend is set to be a big one for the town.

The Mirboo North swimming pool is opening to the public after undergoing extensive refurbishments over the past two years.

The pool features new changing facilities and kiosk, a new toddler splash pad and solar heating to keep the new infinity-edge pool at a pleasant swimming temperature.

The Mirboo North Market returns to its home in Baromi Park this Saturday morning, November 27.

This weekend the market will welcome back their entire stallholder cohort – yes, the entire variety of stalls – including metro traders, so you can expect to see all your favourites and quite a few new stalls!

This Saturday morning will also see the Grand Ridge Rail Trail parkrun return for its first post-restrictions 5km run on the beloved Grand Ridge Rail Trail.

It is a free, weekly, timed 5km walk/jog/run at 8am every Saturday. It’s open to all ages and abilities, and organised entirely by volunteers.

Mirboo North is renowned for its strong and proactive community.

Last Sunday, November 21, we saw locals take to the streets – brooms, paintbrushes and secateurs in hand – for the ‘Paint the Town’ working bee.

Volunteers were busy oiling new outdoor furniture, painting fences and doors, taking down cobwebs and refreshing wine barrel planters to ensure the town is looking spick and span for the busy Christmas period.

Speaking of Christmas, Mirboo North’s ‘Team Christmas’ have been at it again, bringing their festive cheer to the streets, creating some gorgeous vintage-inspired window displays to the main street.

The Christmas windows can be viewed this weekend, with more still to come, and we recommend staying for dinner to see them all lit up at night.

Mirboo North’s main street, Ridgway, has had a big year – thanks to Mirboo Country Development Inc’s (MCDI) Revitalising Ridgway Project which saw fresh paint and signage on shopfronts, new outdoor furniture, new or refurbished garden beds, a new town website ( and social media profile (

The project was recently honoured as a finalist in the MainStreet Australia Awards, but the real winners are the local community who have a real spring in their step post-restrictions.
