STREETSCAPE works in Little Commercial Street, Korumburra will be starting soon after approval was given, behind closed doors at last week’s council meeting, for the construction contract to be let.

Council says the streetscape works will complement the Korumburra Community Hub – which is currently under construction – and improve the visual appeal and functionality of Little Commercial Street, between Bridge Street and Radovick Street.

“The Little Commercial Street works will open up the existing site and increase the usability of this parking area,” Mayor Cr Mohya Davies said this week.

“Improved access to the area from Bridge Street also provides safer access to the site and to the Korumburra Community Hub.

“There are many new developments and improvements happening in town and it’s an exciting time for Korumburra,” Cr Davies said.

The Little Commercial Street works will be completed by ACE Earthmoving, based in Mirboo North, who have experience completing similar projects in regional Victoria.

The contract value is $1,821,025 and will be funded via the Victorian Government’s Community Infrastructure Loans Scheme.

The streetscape and Community Hub works will run concurrently, which will mean that the Little Commercial Street area will be impacted by construction for most of 2022.

However, the contractor will work closely with local businesses to try to minimise disruption as much as possible.

Works are expected to commence late January.

The changes in Little Commercial Street won’t take away from the fact that there’s a problem with through traffic in Korumburra.
