MEMBERS have been busy with the in-house Hi-Lo doubles, which took place on November 27, and the final of the Pennant practice rounds on the November 30.

The former comprised six pairs playing five games throughout the day with the usual lunchtime barbecue break expertly managed by Alan Mullaney.

Thanks to Sue Baker for organising the morning tea and Anne Hill and Jennifer Warburton for stepping up to look after the afternoon refreshments.

Brian Wheeler assisted Sue Cartwright with the scoring and in the final analysis, Sam Morale partnered by Jim Edlington were triumphant by winning four out of five games with Fred and Barbara Heesh being the runners-up.

The Pennant Practice final was fought out between the Coolcats (Paul Andrews and Sue Baker) and Dumb and Dum’R (Tom Lacey and Neil Warburton), with the Coolcats winning the day four games to one.

This has been a great format and hopefully will continue as an internal competition, even when Pennant (COVID permitting) is up and running again in 2022.

Two members, Virginia Wheeler and Neil Warburton travelled to the VCA headquarters at Cairnlea for a VCA handicap doubles tournament on December 3-4, and managed to win 4 out of their 10 games against some stiff competition. Well done.

Watch this space for more in-house events and members’ involvement in external tournaments in the coming days.
