THANKS to the generosity of Leongatha residents, more than 900 shoeboxes filled with gifts are being sent to Cambodian children just in time for Christmas.
Organised by Samaritan’s Purse, this year’s appeal was dubbed ‘Operation Christmas Child’, and locals were encouraged to fill a shoebox with toys, school supplies or clothing for children suffering from war, poverty or natural disasters.
Doreen Western, who has been involved with Samaritan’s Purse for almost 20 years, was thrilled with this year’s appeal.
She said they collected 135 boxes more than last year.
“We got 905 actual shoeboxes and some people who couldn’t manage to do a box donated online,” she said.
“They could put money towards it, and they made more the boxes up there, so it would be well over 905, and they’re on their way to Cambodia.”
Ms Western was full of praise for those who made a donation and gave her sincere thanks for everyone’s generosity.
