In response to the article, ‘Can’t see Wonthaggi for its trees’ (Sentinel-Times, March 16, 2022), why on earth would residents of Wonthaggi’s main streets into town want a forest of trees on their nature strips? It will be a nightmare to maintain with branches and leaf debris littering both roads, drains and footpaths to supposedly beautify the entrance to our township with a canopy of trees.

Money would be better spent on local streets that have no footpaths, old open drains removed and replaced with new underground drains and all unmade roads to be sealed bitumen roads to bring Wonthaggi into the 21st century.

Cr Les Larke, who will maintain these forests? Your maintenance crews will be kept very busy attending to your future plan.
Ratepayers, this is where our rates go on the salaries of councillors that live in La La Land.

Linda Newman, Wonthaggi.
