AS IS the case every year (barring COVID 2020-21), the local Girl Guides group attended the Wonthaggi Croquet Club courts on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 22, for a couple of hours of fun and light-hearted competition.
Some had played before and others were novices but this did not deter them from enjoying themselves. After a little enticement, a couple of the parents/supervisors also had a hit with the girls.
Supervised by some of our members, the afternoon was a huge success. As usual, it was a thoroughly enjoyable time, with the troupe hopefully coming back next year.
On Saturday, March 26, four of our members travelled to Mornington for their annual handicap doubles tournament. It was an unusual format with 12 pairs taking part and each pair playing four games. The most successful four pairs then played off in the semi-finals with a final to finish off the day.
Our pairings of Neil Warburton/Virginia Wheeler, winning two out of four, and Sue Cartwright/Gerry Kool, winning three out of four, unfortunately did not make the cut but did Wonthaggi proud all the same. The victors were Bill and Terri Manwaring from the RNB Club based on the Peninsula.
Next week sees our president/secretary team challenge which is always a fun, competitive day.
Club days are Monday, Wednesday, Saturday from 10am, so please join us at the courts for a try-out.
