Local issues only for council

1 min read

I WAS wondering how major political parties influence Local Council agendas. I have been made aware it is not just lobby groups, but political parties that instruct their members how to vote. This is done with direct communication to members. One such example is on my Facebook page “Darrell Silva”.

The result of this action is that Council becomes divided and end up focusing on state and federal issues rather than what the needs of the local community.

The Local Government Act 2020 (v 021, 2024): Part 2 describes the roles and powers of a council and includes items around community consultation requirements and acting for the best interests of the community.

If elected to council, I will advocate that the prioritisation remains on local issues.
