Car crashes through shop window in Wonthaggi

THERE was drama in the main street of Wonthaggi on Saturday morning January 4 at about 10.45am when a car mounted the curb in McBride Avenue and drove through the front window of a local shop on the corner of Watt Street and McBride Avenue..

It has been reported that an elderly female driver hit the accelerator instead of the brake in the driving mishap.

No one was physically injured, including the driver or passersby who saw the incident, although the driver was reportedly in a state of shock.

Being a commercial premises and not retail shop, there was no one working inside.

The affected premises was a commercial shop at 71-73 McBride Avenue occupied by Raso Consulting Surveyors.

Police, SES, fire brigade and Ambulance Victoria attended the scene; emergency services quickly on the scene, having already turned out to support their public displays at the Wonthaggi Show.

Police praised emergency services for their prompt response.

McBride Avenue was closed to traffic for approximately half an hour.
