Help fight mange

1 min read

With Venus Bay’s wombats battling the dual threats of fast-moving vehicles and mange, they face a hazardous existence, and community members are striving to tackle both issues, including through a mange information session this Sunday October 6.

South Gippsland Landcare Network is running the session at Venus Bay Community Centre, advising people how to join the fight against mange, and providing treatment training.

That follows rising numbers of reports of wombats with the debilitating mite infestation that is fatal if not treated in time, and an increased transfer of mange to koalas.

Guest Speaker Simonne Flemming from Rescue to Release will detail how to identify mange in wombats and other wildlife, and the correct way to report animals with the condition and those that are injured.

Different techniques for treating mange in wombats will be covered.

People will learn about registering as a volunteer with Mange Management Victoria but there is no obligation for those attending the information session to do so.

Contact kirby@sgln.net.au if you have any questions about the session.

Along with Rescue to Release, the event is supported by Mange Management Victoria and the Venus Bay Community Centre.

The session runs from 9.30am until 1pm and morning tea will be provided.
