What’s in it for Wonthaggi Hospital?

THE state budget was declared last week and with $320 million allocated to the Hospital Infrastructure Delivery Fund to help hospitals plan and design their upgrades, expansions or complete rebuilds, $290 million of that has been assigned to Wonthaggi Hospital’s redevelopment. 

Bass MP Jordan Crugnale explained that ‘this fund will give our hospitals the flexibility they need to start on of these projects right away – with each project staged to deliver the best outcomes and value for money.

“We will continue to work with Bass Coast Health to begin the works on stage two, and the funds will be drawn down and distributed as they are required.”

As these projects were announced late last year, there is considerable work needed in planning and designing required, and this investment will enable the Victorian Health Building Authority to undertake the necessary planning and development activities to successfully deliver the projects to the scope announced last year.

For newly acquired and existing sites, the masterplan will explore options for laying out and configuring the hospital, with shells of the Wonthaggi Hospital stage two development already in place. 

“What’s great about the stage one building is that it already contains a future expansion area which means it is ready to be fitted out.” 

“The final costs for all projects will be confirmed once the necessary planning is completed however, we expect it to be in line with previous announcements.”

The redevelopment of Wonthaggi listed in the state budget is Labor delivering on their election promise last year which comprises of $290 million to deliver the second stage of works at Wonthaggi

Hospital, a major redevelopment that delivers extra beds, a new birthing complex and a new outpatient clinic. 

Ms Crugnale confirmed that stage two is in the works and further communication will be released in the coming weeks after discussions with Bass Coast Health.
