Boy attacked in park 

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was allegedly assaulted and robbed by two males in Coleman Park, Korumburra.   The boy sustained minor injuries from the assault and the two men allegedly took off with the boy’s phone. The incident occurred at about 7:30 pm on Monday, May 23.   The two men have been identified and will be questioned by police. Witnesses are asked to contact Korumburra Police if they have any further information about the attack.      

Midnight arrest  

JUST before midnight on Thursday, May 25, police arrested a 32-year-old female at a Wonthaggi address.   The female was arrested for two counts of theft from retail premises in Wonthaggi, which occurred on Tuesday, April 25 and Friday, May 5, 2023.   The woman has been charged with offences including contravening certain conduct condition of bail, theft (shop steal) and committing an indictable offence whilst on bail.  The female was remanded in custody and was due to appear in the Wonthaggi Magistrates’ Court.    

Man charged with multiple offences  

A 29-YEAR-OLD male was remanded in custody last week for allegedly possessing illicit drugs and possessing cartridge ammunition and for breaching court orders.   Following a tip off, police attended an address in Leongatha with three warrants for arrest on the man.  According to Eyewatch -Bass Coast Police Service Area, when the police showing up, the man allegedly fled. However, he didn’t get too far before being caught by police.   The male was allegedly located in possession of multiple types of drugs, firearm ammunition, and was also breaching a court order, and has been charged with these offences.     

Car crashes into two Inverloch homes 

A 24-YEAR-OLD male driver was likely inebriated when he crashed a Kia people mover into not just one, but two houses in Inverloch.   According to Eyewatch -Bass Coast Police Service Area, the driver, from Yokine (Western Australia), was travelling along Sandy Mount Avenue when he failed to negotiate a corner, lost control, left the roadway and collided with two residential dwellings in Venus Street.  Moderate damage was caused to both homes and the vehicle sustained extensive damage as a result of the collision.  The driver was taken to the Wonthaggi Hospital for assessment and his 22-year-old male passenger, also from Yokine (Western Australia), was not injured.  The incident occurred in the early morning hours, approximately 3:10 am on Sunday, May 28.   The investigation into the cause of the collision is still being undertaken, however it is believed that alcohol was a factor, police noted.   Police from Leongatha and Wonthaggi Stations, as well as Paramedics from Ambulance Victoria and volunteer firefighters from CFA Inverloch and volunteer rescuers from SES Wonthaggi Unit attended the crash.     

Erratic driving ends in crash 

A 19-YEAR-OLD male crashed into a structure at a retail premises in Cowes after he was seen driving erratically on Phillip Island Road.  The vehicle was allegedly seen swerving over double white lines and had multiple near-misses with oncoming vehicles while driving towards Cowes from Cape Woolamai, according to Eyewatch -Bass Coast Police Service Area.  This resulted in a collision at Thompson Avenue, Cowes at about 11:00am, on Saturday, May 27.    The Cape Woolamai man, who was driving a light green Ford Fairlane sedan with a grey front and black aftermarket rims, allegedly fled from the scene but was arrested nearby by police.  The driver is expected to be charged with offences including reckless conduct endangering life, driving in a dangerous manner, careless driving, failing to have proper control of vehicle, and failing to exchange details after collision.  Police are appealing for witnesses and those with dash-cam footage to get in touch.     

Drunk driver ends up in drain 

A 31-YEAR-old male from Wonthaggi lost control of his vehicle and careened into a drain and allegedly blew 0.299 on a breath test.   Wonthaggi Police responded to the report of a single vehicle collision, which occurred at the intersection of Merrin Crescent and Queen Street, Wonthaggi on Saturday, May 27, at about 11:32am.  The man was driving a black Suzuki Alto hatch, which was significantly damaged as a result of ending up in the drain.  Police found that the vehicle was unregistered, and the driver had conditions on his driver licence, that state he should have had zero alcohol content when driving.  The vehicle was impounded, for 30 days, at a cost of $1290.00.   The driver is expected to appear at the Wonthaggi Magistrates’ Court.  The driver was assessed by paramedics from Ambulance Victoria, but did not require medical treatment.
