THE Wonthaggi District Tennis Club were thrilled to hold the grand opening of their newly established tennis pavilion as part of the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve Masterplan.
Bass Coast Shire Cr Leticia Laing attended the opening with acting CEO James Stirton before the official opening by Bass MP Jordan Crugnale. The facility was collectively funded by state government, the Bass Coast Shire Council, and the Wonthaggi District Tennis Club, with a total funding amount of $870,000.
The project was bought to light as part of the Active Bass Coast plan. A 10-year plan that set the scene for healthy and active environments and services into the future. The plan provided strategic direction for the delivery of open space and recreations projects, along with short-, medium- and long-term goals.
Club president since 2002 Russell Cargill – owner of Cargill Sports in Wonthaggi said ‘the courts were refurbished approximately five years ago and today we’re thrilled to celebrate the new pavilion built by TS Constructions.
“It’s a great all-inclusive building with toilet amenities, a fully equipped kitchen, open space for presentations and group functions as well as separate tournament rooms.”
Members of the club attended the opening on Sunday morning taking part in a cardio coaching session with ITM Coach Paul Rowbottom.
“This new space secures the future of tennis for the district, it’s great for Wonthaggi and for the sport of tennis,” said Russell.
