What the Wonthaggi Power coach had to say…

2 min read

EVEN minutes after the heartbreaking loss to Leongatha, on almost the last kick of the day on Saturday, Wonthaggi Power and its coach Jarryd Blair had already refocused on the next challenge.

He spoke to the Sentinel-Times after the game…

  • So, overall, what did you think of the game today?

“I just thought it was a good quality hit-out, two sides sort of fighting to the death, trying to get over the line. It was really good.”

  • What are the main positives you take out of that?

"I think we take a fair bit of belief out of the game, knowing that turning up for four quarters goes a long way to getting it done, but I think we'll take a lot of lessons out of it too. You know, they're a really quality side. So, we'll have a look at the tape and sort of see what we can take from it and spend a week trying to earn the right to have another crack at it.”

  • Apart from Aaron Heppell for Leongatha, there were no really dominant forwards on the day. The defences of both sides were strong?

“Yeah, I think it was a game of defence, contest after contest. You know, I think that's what we expected from Leongatha. They’ve got some big bodies in there who just like turning up and working hard. So yeah, it's always a pretty contested battle with these guys.”

  • Did you single out any of your defenders for particular praise today?

“I thought they were all pretty solid. They're working really well as a unit and look to cover for each other when they need to. I don’t think there was any one hero today, it was pretty solid across the board.”

  • And you've all come through pretty well injury-wise?

“Yeah, I think we're all good.”

  • So, what's the main message that you take forward?

“I think the main message is that we just focus on what's right in front of us, which is coming back over here tomorrow and supporting the Two’s boys and then working through the week and making sure we're prepared for either Traralgon or Sale.”
