Diversity and inclusion celebrated at Australia Day in Inverloch

AUSTRALIA Day is a time for all Australians to reflect, respect and celebrate according to Inverloch RSL President Ross Gabb.

Delivering the keynote speech for Australia Day at The Glade Mr Gabb explained what it means to be Australian.

“It is different for everyone,” he said.

Mr Gabb acknowledged past and present armed forces personnel who had dedicated their service to the country, some paying the ultimate price protecting Australia.

“There are many challenges,” said Mr Gabb.

“We do not agree on everything however, we do work hard, look out for each other and are not afraid to take on the big challenges.

“We are stronger when we listen and learn from each other and recognise and acknowledge our different experiences and different cultures.

“We have all learnt from the many communities across Australia impacted by flood, fire and drought, and how important neighbours are when the chips are down.”

Mr Gabb said we continue to learn from each Australia Day honours list about the remarkable breadth of service and the incredible range of backgrounds of the people in our community who go above and beyond, and who inspire.

“Celebrating doesn’t mean universal agreement or pretending that everything is perfect,” he said.

Mr Gabb said we celebrate the good in our past while acknowledging our past isn’t perfect, we celebrate our present and continue to take on the big challenges, and most of all celebrate our future and our potential.

“Australia is not a finished product, but we are a good people,” said Mr Gabb.

“We are a clever country and a country to be proud of.”
