MIRBOO North locals were thrilled with the reopening of the public swimming pool last Friday, on a day that was hot and sunny and got to a summery top of 31 degrees.
It was free entry on the day, and the pool was already full of kids, just 15 minutes after opening.
It was the first time locals have been able to use the pool after the season earlier this year got cut short following the storms in mid-February.
Contractors have been working hard to get the pool open in time for Christmas and locals are pleased.
“It’s so good it’s open again. We’ve (already) missed a couple of months and we missed a couple of months after the storms in February. So, it’s really good,” said pool lifeguard Logan Anders.
Early morning swims are also now open, having started on Monday, December 23.
In another bonus for locals, the Community Bank Mirboo North and District and the Mirboo North and District Community Foundation announced that they have
partnered up to offer half-price pool season passes (both family and individual) for the 2024/25 season.
This is to provide Mirboo North residents with some extra Christmas cheer and to celebrate the re-opening of the facility.
Under this same initiative, free season passes will be offered to a number of households in the community who have one-on-one access to recovery support workers from Windemere and Gippsland
Lakes Complete Health, who are Emergency Recovery Victoria’s Case managers.
These households will be contacted by the case managers and will be instructed on how to receive the free season pass.
To receive a half-price pool season pass, all locals have to do is show their driver’s licence on entry to the pool, as proof of residence in postcode 3871, and staff will give the discounted price.
There remains some minor tidying-up works occurring onsite, and Council ask that people avoid those areas.
