Mirboo North's water mystery

GIPPSLAND Water is calling on Mirboo North residents to help find a mysterious water leak in the town.

“We know there is a leak somewhere in town, but we need your help locating it. Have you seen a puddle that never seems to go away? A patch of soggy ground? Water on the ground even though it hasn’t rained in days?” the authority posted to Facebook.

While Gippsland Water go on to state that it’s a minor leak, according to local's there is a lot of water around the town.

Locals commented on excessive water at the following locations:

  • Baths Road Reserve, on little dicky path opposite the houses on the main street there has always been a weird amount of water when I've walked (there).
  • Top of FormBottom of FormBottom of Jordan Way.
  •  A tap was fixed at the rec on Saturday.
  • Big leak on Scarlett Street, has leaked continuously for a long time and reported it to Gippsland Water.
  • Still leaking out front of 53 Wells Road. Had guys look at it a few days ago but still wet today.
  • Path in Baths Reserve near the school crossing.

A few others made additional comments:

  • Half the town is a water bowl.
  • Those holes that we dig and they continue to fill with water for days?
  • Gippsland water needs to find all hydrant plugs and make sure they are good to go if needed this summer.

One resident questioned the origin of all the water and another had an opinion on it.

  • Is it due to the excessive large uprooted trees having left sinkholes?
  • No it’s due to lack of annual maintenance.

Whatever the cause, Gippsland Water would like to patch it up as soon as they can and with help from locals are hoping to track it down quickly.
