New staff settle in at Leongatha Secondary College

1 min read

AS REPORTED recently in the Sentinel-Times, Leongatha Secondary College (LSC) has a healthy influx of new team members, bringing a variety of teaching and leadership skills.

Dan McCaughey has arrived from Traralgon College, living a little closer in Mirboo North, but is originally from Western Australia.
He’ll teach year 9 and 10 humanities this year.

“The things that motivate me to teach are the connections and relationships I build with students and I love it when I can help a student to achieve something that they may not have originally believed they could,” Dan said.

In addition to teaching, his role at LSC involves staff coaching.

“I am looking forward to supporting other teachers in their pursuit of teaching excellence, in whatever form that takes for them,” Dan said.
Melissa Neill has returned to LSC from Korumburra Secondary College where she was senior school leader for the last four years.

“I now have many wonderful connections across both schools in our immediate area, and I am proud of what each school is doing for education in South Gippsland,” Melissa said.

She outlined what motivates her as a teacher.

“Seeing students build their reading, writing and speaking skills for the world outside the classroom is what I am passionate about,” Melissa said.

Students in years 8, 10, 11 and 12 will be motivated by that passion during their English classes with Melissa.

She is determined to help as many year 12 students as possible reach their full potential in 2023, and looks forward to contributing to the LSC leadership team.

Elizabeth (Liz) Williams joins LSC from a Baw Baw Shire school, motivated to help students achieve their best and improve in science and maths.

She loves assisting them to build their knowledge and understanding of science and potentially encouraging them to pursue related careers.
