Bigger, better, brighter!
NOW in its fifth year, the PICES summer Pop Up Exhibition has become a ‘must go to’ event in Cowes, Phillip Island during January.
The fifth PICES Pop Up Exhibition will be held, in partnership with Bass Coast Shire Council, in the art gallery at Berninneit, 91-97 Thompson Avenue Cowes, from January 3 until January 29, 2024 (closed Tuesdays).
Opening night 7pm Tuesday, January 2 at Gallery, Berninneit.
Closing night 5.30pm Monday, January 29 at Gallery, Berninneit.
All welcome.
Sandra Peeters of PICES shared for art lovers and others alike, there will be something to capture your attention and delight you.
This an event not to be missed –27 first-class emerging and established artists from Phillip Island, the Bass Coast and beyond, showing a broad range of high-quality contemporary photography, painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, weaving, ceramics, and pyrography.
Exhibiting artists include:
Week 1 - January 3, 2024: John Ansell, Lana de Jager, Mandy Gunn, Melinda Holt, Anne Mestitz, and Owen Rye.
Week 2 - January 10, 2024: Marlene Abela, David Bell, Sue Gilford, Steve Horswood, Carolyne Jane, Chris Lawry, Gayle Margaret, and Ursula Theinert.
Week 3 – January 17, 2024: Chris Farrell, Ken Fisher, Wendy Habraken-Flack, Jillian Mitchell, Michelle Osabutey, Mick Turner, and Kylie Watson.
Week 4 – January 24, 2024: Tamara Bailey, Adam Cox, Scott McFadden, Marian Quigley, Amanda Thompson, and Kim Wood.
A visitor to last year’s exhibition commented “Fantastic art show, truly inspirational.”
“We are sure that you too will enjoy and feel inspired,” said Sandra.
This event will be immediately followed by a new initiative, PICES in Focus, in the same venue from January 31, 2023, until February 12, 2024. Renowned painter, Mark Schaller and well-known sculptor, Andrew Kasper, from Bass Coast join with talented weaver Mae Adams from Venus Bay to bring together a powerful and reflective combination of their artwork.
They invite you to join them in the Gallery on Sunday, February 4 at 2pm when they will share ideas about their art practice in a discussion moderated by well-known local journalist, Catherine Watson. “All welcome.”
PICES is thrilled to have received grants from Bass Coast Shire Council and Regional Arts Victoria enabling it to mount this exhibition and to make a film of the artists involved.
As in past years, a dedicated and energetic team of artists, art lovers, with Curator, Warren Nichols, are working to present a stunning range of quality art works equal to the high expectations that the beautiful, purpose-built art gallery a Berninneit inspires.
