WINNING the Best Pub Bar - regional at the recent state AHA State Awards for Excellence has made Poowong Hotel owners Fiona Cox and Ben Hall feel incredibly proud.
“It was pure elation. We were just besides ourselves, which was fantastic. The AHA put on such an amazing night for everybody to enjoy.”
The Poowong crew enjoyed a night of great food and entertainment together celebrating their hard-earned success.
Fiona, and partner Ben have been running the Poowong Hotel for nearly 18 years.
“It's been a lot of hard work that's gone into it,” said Fiona.
The pub owners put their success down to having good staff, taking pride in their business while also enjoying their customers.
“We're forever striving to be the best that we could possibly be with customer service. We've got a fantastic crew of our staff, and I think that reflects also on the fact that they take pride and enjoy coming into work.”
Loving what they do, constantly evolving, and listening to what the customers want are also factors that Fiona attributes to their success and being chosen for the award.
“Our customers are the ones that sort of put us there. We strive to make sure that we're constantly evolving.”
“I've been doing this for 35 years and I love it. Every day it's a new day and people say, ‘Do you get tired of it?’ No, I love it,” said Fiona.
The Poowong Pub will now get the chance to represent at the 2024 AHA National Awards for Excellence in Brisbane this November.
