IT was fright night at the Nyora Cricket Club as children in creative and spooky costumes celebrated Halloween on Saturday.
This is the second time the club has hosted a Halloween themed event, and it was thrilled with the turnout.
“We had more than 100 people, including 65 children,” club committee member Natalie Mlinaric said.
“We’ve got some really fun activities for the kids; it’s been really good. We have been blessed with beautiful weather two years in a row.”
Some the activities included an adaptation of the egg and spoon race using skeleton hands, sack races and quirky cookie eating contests.
The highlight of the evening was the haunted room, which included lots of spooky surprises.
The room was open for exploration once it was dark and lolly bags were offered at the end.
Barnzee’s Hot Bake from Korumburra gave its support by making scarily decorated donuts for the event.
The Halloween event kicked off followed A Grade’s win during the day, giving the club plenty of reason to celebrate.
“It was nice to see some of the cricketers who don’t play anymore come down. They were saying it was amazing to see how many kids were running around the club,” Natalie said.
The Halloween night is a community event for players, local families, and to help boost children’s interest in the club.
“We are a family orientated club, and we like to see the kids getting involved,” Natalie said.
“We’re excited because this year we’ve got three junior sides. We’ve combined one of the grades with Korumburra so we could make sure the kids would get a go and we’ve been sharing home games with them.”
The club thanked the volunteers who gave their time to provide a fun, thrilling Halloween party.
