KILCUNDA proved to be the perfect romantic venue for an all-abilities Valentine’s Day disco at Phoenix Rise a new $3 million dollar private respite complex on the Bass Highway.
An initiative of Bass Coast Support Work Services the Phoenix Rise Valentine’s Day disco was well supported by a large number of over 18 romantics and their support workers.
The disco was held in the stables of Phoenix Rise a former 40Ha equestrian training property now owned by Bass Coast Support Work Services.
The respite centre marks an important milestone for the local NDIS provider.
“I’m quite stunned at what we’ve created,” said Managing Director, Erin Gardner.
“Overwhelmed.”
The three million dollar property can provide respite accommodation for up to twelve people in two separate buildings close to Kilcunda and nearby beaches.
Bass Coast Support Work Services started from humble beginnings.
“We’re only five years old,” said Ms Gardner.
“I was made redundant after twenty years in retail management and started looking for something else.
“I tried Tupperware, then worked in childcare services.
“I saw a lot of gaps and decided to change it.”
The Wattle Bank based registered NDIS provider currently employs 60 staff to co-ordinate and provide support for NDIS, TAC and WorkCover clients.
“We held our first social occasion in November at the Dalyston Hall and it was a great success,” said Ms Gardner.
Bass Coast Support Work Services is now planning an U18 children’s disco.
“Participants come from Foster, Korumburra, Mirboo North, Wonthaggi, Kilcunda, Phillip Island and Welshpool,” said Ms Gardner.
“It’s a warm, welcoming environment where participants can make friends and connections outside the regular NDIS group.”
Surrounded by beaming faces at the Phoenix Rise disco Erin Gardner can be rightly proud of what she has achieved in such a short space of time.
