Council
Cr Davies honoured after 11 years of service

THE long-term service of retiring Foster-based councillor Mohya Davies was acknowledged by South Gippsland Shire Mayor Clare Williams during Wednesday’s council meeting.
Cr Williams praised Cr Davies contribution, presenting her with flowers.

Having previously served two terms as a councillor, beginning in 2008, before time away from the role, Cr Davies decided to run at the last election with the aim of helping restore stability to council following its period of administration.

In all, she has been a councillor for 11 years, being the first Mayor of the current councillor group and providing valuable leadership as the only current councillor to have served previously.

“Thank you Mohya for your commitment to your community and to South Gippsland,” Cr Williams said, also acknowledging the leadership she has shown the councillor group.

During the meeting, Cr Davies reflected on her time as an elected representative.

“I have loved my role on council and it’s been a real privilege to serve our community at this level,” Cr Davies said.

“My journey into local government came about because of my pride in this region and my passion for the community.”

She thanked her fellow councillors, the two council CEOs she has worked with, Tim Tamlin and Kerryn Ellis, and the support of council officers, wishing those councillors who are standing again all the best and saying she looks forward to working with them as a community member.

As one of those working to establish a new newspaper in the Promontory region, Cr Davies is likely to continue attending council meetings come the next term.

“I might come along and join Andrew and become part of the press,” she declared, with this scribe looking forward to the company.
