Everywhere on Australia Day in Bass Coast

FROM the Wonthaggi Rotary Club’s free breakfast to start the day at the Wonthaggi Union Community Art Centre from 7,30am to the centrepiece citizenship ceremony at the Wonthaggi Workmens Club in the afternoon and the big ‘Oz Day at the Daly’ from 4pm; there’s a big day of celebrations across Bass Coast on Australia Day, Friday, January 26.

And Bass Coast Shire Council Mayor Cr Clare Le Serve is encouraging everyone to fly the flag, sing the song and get involved.

Speaking this week, Cr Le Serve said she is particularly looking forward to welcoming our new citizens at our Citizenship Ceremony in Wonthaggi on January 26 as one of the absolute highlights and privileges of her mayoral term.

The citizenship ceremony is a private event for those involved but community members are invited to attend the other community-wide activities which are all being held on Friday, January 26.

  • Wonthaggi: Rotary Club of Wonthaggi Australia Day Community Breakfast & 30th Annual Community Service Awards. Wonthaggi Union Community Art centre, 96 Graham St Wonthaggi, from 7.30am. Free Community Breakfast followed by the Annual Award Program, Ambassador and the presentation of Rotary Community awards.
  • Dalyston: Oz Day at the Daly 4pm-9.30pm. Dalyston Recreation Reserve. Come and celebrate Australia Day at the Dalyston Recreation Reserve! Live music, Children's Activities, Plenty of Food and Drinks with Fireworks at 9:30pm to finish the night! No BYO alcohol. Adult tickets $20 each and children under 18 years are free (but please book them a ticket).
  • Pound Creek: Pound Creek CFA Australia Day Community Event 11am - 2:30pm. Pound Creek CFA Station, 686 Inverloch-Venus Bay Rd, Pound Creek. BBQ, salads and sweets provided by the Pound Creek Rural Fire Brigade Ladies Auxiliary. Entertainment provided by the South Gippsland Brass Band. Guest speaker and a flag raising ceremony, with singing of the Australian national anthem.
  • Rhyll: Reflect, Respect and Celebrate 11am- 2.00pm. Rhyll Hall & Park, Lock Road, Rhyll. Phillip Island and District Historical Society partnered with Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo. Live music, Food Vans, Clowns, Stilt Walkers, African Drummers, Art Exhibition & more.
  • Inverloch: Australia Day Ceremony by the Inverloch RSL 12pm -12.30pm. Inverloch Cenotaph, 9 A’Beckett St Inverloch. Service presented by the President of the Inverloch RSL.
