OUTDOOR staff at the Bass Coast Shire Council deserve a huge “well done” for the super-fast response to the shocking vandalism incident at Cape Peterson last weekend.
Within hours of the vandalism being notified, they had some excellent temporary toilets in place at the three targeted locations; First Surf Beach, Allan Birt Reserve and Safety Beach-Browns Bay.
These toilet blocks will be cleaned daily and will cover the demand over the school holidays, with the area especially busy as temperatures soared in recent days, and will do so again with the El Nino being declared.
So, again, well done to all concerned.
The Bass Coast Shire Council is working with Victoria Police around the incident that occurred in the early hours of last Saturday morning.
“Unfortunately, on the night of Friday, September 15 and the early hours of Saturday, September 16, 2023 our public toilet blocks at First Surf Beach, Brown's Bay, and Allan Birt Park Reserve in Cape Paterson were severely vandalised,” said the shire.
“Due to the significant damage, these facilities will remain closed for an extended period. We're actively looking into temporary solutions for Cape Paterson while we assess the extent of the repairs needed.
“We call on our community, if you have any information, please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Wonthaggi Police on (03) 5671 4100.”
SHIRE UPDATE: “Temporary toilet facilities have been installed at all three sites. They'll be receiving daily cleaning services as usual, ensuring they're in top condition for everyone. These facilities will stay put until we reach a permanent solution.”
