Round 4
THE wind was at full strength as the Phillip Island women’s cricket team arrived at Bass 2 for the round four clash against Kilcunda-Bass Hammerheads.
The first game of the doubleheader, Captain Bec won the toss and elected to field.
Grace opened the bowling and achieved quick success with two wickets in her first over.
Kate and B soon followed up with wickets of their own.
Katie then bowled with pace to claim the next two wickets and Jess two more.
Winnie finished the first rotation with great line and length to claim a wicket of her own.
Katie claimed another two wickets in her second over, taking her total to an incredible 4/7.
Rosanna worked tirelessly behind the stumps, contributing to six runouts and Jane, Claudia, Jess and Bec joined the wicket haul ensuring that the Island women finished their innings with every bowler getting a wicket.
The Kilcunda-Bass Hammerheads finished their innings on 71 runs.
Rosanna and Katie opened the batting for the Island.
Rosanna smashed two well-placed boundaries and Katie ran effortlessly to turn the strike over, a brilliant 25-run partnership. Grace and Jane demonstrated pure skill, with Grace top scoring with 17 runs, including two boundaries.
The Island reached 53 at the change.
Jess was up for the challenge, with three well-placed balls sailing to the boundary, inspiring B to a beautifully placed boundary down the ground.
The score reached 82.
Bec, Claudia and Kate all ran well between the wickets and Winnie finished the game with a very powerful four.
The Island won the game with 126 runs.
