- But take care on the roads
THE weather in Bass Coast and South Gippsland is clearing (Friday, October 7 1.30pm) after a ‘tropical’ cloudburst hit parts of Bass Coast from 11am to 1pm- today, and through South Gippsland dropping the best part of 25mm or an inch in the old measure in two hours.
But locals reported a warm "tropical" breeze from the north before the rain hit and the temperature eased from 19 degrees to 15.
Water was flowing across the road in a lot of areas, particularly across the Phillip Island Road, while there was also flash-flooding along The Esplanade in Cowes.
It has prompted Emergency Victoria to issue warnings of flash flooding for the Bunyip River in West Gippsland.
There’s also a new warning of thunderstorm activity in central, north central, and north east parts of the state, renewed for West and South Gippsland. Locations in central Gippsland from Warragul and Drouin east were highlighted.
The rain is expected to ease now and into Saturday with less than 1mm of rain predicted on Saturday, fining up to be “partly cloudy” on Sunday.
But the improvement might not be enough to save the start to summer cricket with already damp grounds now saturated.
