WHILE driving around Wonnie and to the island I couldn’t help noticing how many car tyres and general backyard and trade rubbish there is on the roadsides, and on the weekend I found out why.
My brother took a medium sized load of mainly recyclable rubbish to the ‘Transfer Station’ and was charged $88.
My friends in Richmond get two free hard waste collections a year and their rates are about the same as ours. Surely the cost of retrieving rubbish dumped by the roadside will eventually outweigh the cost of giving ratepayers what metropolitan communities get.
And, with all due respect to the nice blokes who work at the transfer stations it shouldn’t be left to them to have to estimate the cost of dumping your rubbish there; shire engineers should be able to come up with a fair system of determining the fee.
