Major parties spread misinformation about Leonard

I AM a member of Voices for Monash and like hundreds of other people in the Monash electorate I am volunteering my free time to campaign for Deb Leonard. As a supporter of Deb, I feel I know her policies and understand how community led politics work.

Until there is legislation to prevent lies in political campaigns, we volunteers expect to have to counter or correct misinformation with the truth.

I have been particularly disappointed recently at the deliberately false propaganda about Deb that is being perpetrated by the major parties.

At a recent market, the Labor candidate told me something about Deb’s policies which was blatantly untrue and would not accept my correction.

However, the card in my letter box, authorised by the Liberal Party absolutely takes the cake at deceptive advertising. The headline on the card reads, “Teal independents vote with the greens” and shows three columns allegedly representing voting patterns. This is a blatant scare campaign and devious use of statistics.

To make any sense of the graphic, further information is required, but not included (because it would damage the false case being presented).

I am sorry to say that people can’t believe everything they read or hear. I encourage everyone to check out Deb Leonard’s website before being fooled by such scurrilous campaigns.
