One may be age related, one isn’t

1 min read

May I respond to two of the letters in the edition of 11/2?

Firstly, the ageist rash generalisation that people over 70 “no longer have the critical thinking skills necessary to make complex decisions”, quoting the new US President as an example.

Donald Trump sprayed his frequent pronouncements all over the place before he turned 70. His judgements, if they can be called that, are not related to his age.

The people I know over 70 (myself included) all live active, functional lives requiring frequent critical-thinking decision-making.

Secondly, the complaint about Bass Coast Council paying $4 million plus to have the Wonthaggi and San Remo cemeteries managed by another entity in perpetuity, i.e. forever.

Hopefully the new managers will provide the compassionate, professional cemetery management the council, for various reasons, was unable to offer. And that will be money well spent.

Jane Ross, San Remo.
