Questions and rightful answers

1 min read

IT IS no surprise that there are now numerous questions from residents at each Bass Coast Shire Council Meeting.

Often the same question worded slightly differently asked at a following council meeting is required to maybe get a reply that approximates to what was asked previously.

Take for example where at the November 2024 council meeting four individual questions were asked regarding Berninneit Passivhaus Certification or to be more exact, failure to gain Passivhaus certification, only for the CEO to provide one answer that did not address any one of the four questions satisfactorily.

Again at the December 2024 meeting a question asked, “The 2023/24 Annual Report page 107 reports “Contributions Non - monetary – Land $5.875 million”. Please provide the names of the individual land addresses for a site visit”.

What was confusing about this question? The CEO’s response stated there were 14 properties but supplied addresses for five properties only, but council listed 13 properties in the report not fourteen.

Council appears to have a problem understanding the questions and counting.

My schoolteacher many years ago said, “read the question, understand the question then answer the question”.

Obviously, the CEO did not have my schoolteacher. Obviously more questions will have to be asked at the next council meeting in an endeavour to extract concise answers. All we want is honest answers to our questions not spin, evasion and gobbledygook.
